New York City Central Park Engagement Session

New-York-city-engagement-session

There is something magical about engagement photos in New York City. From taking in the incredible city skyline, to strolling through Central Park and experiencing the ever busy subway, there are endless photo opportunities in Manhattan. I hope this New York City Central Park Engagement Session gives you inspiration for your own engagement photos!

Maggie and Colin live in New York and while their 2023 wedding will be in Virginia, they wanted to have their engagement photos taken in their favorite city.

For photos in Central Park, Maggie wore a dress covered in adorable bows and a pair of Jimmy Choo Heels. She accessorized with a pink coat and a fun hat, giving all of the Emily In Paris meets Carrie Bradshaw vibes. Colin chose to wear his blue suit and it complimented Maggie perfectly. We visited Poets Lane, took photos on the huge rocks with a view of the city scape, and used the architecture of the stairs as a backdrop for editorial inspired photos.

A few tips for taking engagement photos in NYC:

  1. Give yourself plenty of time! Walking to different locations, changing outfits, and the New York traffic can all take up photo time. We allowed 4 hours for photos… (Okay, this may have included a pit stop for NY pizza ;D ) While most of my engagement sessions last about 90 minutes, I knew we would want to allow for longer to explore NYC and not feel rushed. Because the sun sets earlier in the winter, we started their session at 1:30pm.
  2. Be prepared to wait your turn to take photos at the prettiest photo spots. When we were in Central Park, there was a line of people waiting to take photos on the rocks overlooking The Lake and the City Skyline…The photos were totally worth the wait!
  3. Bring comfortable walking shoes for in-between photos if you are wearing heels. You will thank me later! (Maggie was super smart and wore a pair of warm Uggs for walking in-between locations).
  4. Take the subway! Metro cards are inexpensive and the subway can get you from the top of Manhattan to the bottom in under 30 minutes! Plus, photos in the subway are super fun! (See below!)
  5. Have fun and dress up! Engagement sessions are a super special occasion and it’s the perfect excuse to pull that dress you have always wanted to wear out of your closet! For an engagement session, you can never dress too fancy!(Especially in New York City!)

New York City Subway Engagement Photos

After a subway ride through the city, we ended the night at the Wall Street Hotel on the lower east side of Manhattan. The Wall Street Hotel is a luxe 5 star experience in the financial district. We grabbed a drink a the hotel bar and were all in agreement that it was probably the best spicy margarita we had ever had! Direct flash was used to create images that gave off celebratory engagement party vibes.
