Washington D.C. Cherry Blossom Engagement Session

Cherry Blossom Engagement Session in D.C.

Washington D.C. in the Spring is a magical time. People come from all over the country (and the world!) to see the infamous Cherry Blossoms as they make their appearance in March. The pink and white blooms decorate the Tidal Basin and nearby memorials. It is no wonder so many people love to come and experience the magic in person. The Cherry Blossoms are especially beautiful backdrop for engagement sessions. While parking may be hard to find and you may have to weave through crowds of people (even at 7 in the morning!), the photos are SO worth it! Patience is key when visiting D.C. during the Cherry Blossom Festival. With a little patience and good use of camera angles, you can make it seem like you are the only people at the Tidal Basin, despite being surrounded by other sightseers.

5 Tips To Make The Most Of Your Cherry Blossom Engagement Session:

1.) Be prepared for there to be A LOT of people! If you have never been to see the cherry blossoms in D.C. at the end of March into April, the crowds of people may come as quite a shock! Despite all of the people present to enjoy the blooms, I can make it look like you are the only two people in the entire city! We may have to wait a few minutes for prime photo spots, but it will be SO worth it!

2.) Go on a weekday morning! Sunrise during the week is the best time to visit the cherry blossoms. While waking up at 4am isn’t ideal, it ensures a smoother engagement session with less people competing for prime photo spots around the tidal basin. This brings me to my next point…

3.) Arrive extra early to find parking or consider taking an Uber into the city. Parking is HARD to find in D.C. during this time, even at 6am. I recommend arriving EXTRA early to find parking and allow extra time to walk to the Tidal Basin. You can also Uber into the city or take the metro to avoid the stress of finding parking altogether.

4.) Bring comfortable shoes to change into. While we are walking between locations, bringing a second pair of comfortable shoes will save your feet if you are wearing heels.

5.) Consider alternate locations. The Tidal Basin is the #1 spot to see the cherry blossoms in D.C. But, did you know you can also see the cherry blossoms in other locations around the city? The National Arboretum is one of my other favorite spots to see the Cherry Blossoms and it is often less crowded! Please note: The National Arboretum requires a permit if you are having photos taken. I am happy to walk you through the permit process!
