Winter Washington D.C. Engagement Session 

I met S+K on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on a cold winter morning for their Washington D.C. Engagement Session. The temperature was in the low 20s and the only other people there were ambitious morning runners. A sunrise engagement session in D.C., although early, is super worth it for photos that make it seem you are the only two people in the entire city.

The Best Location in D.C. For Engagement Photos

The Lincoln Memorial is one of my most favorite locations in D.C. for engagement photos, because so many D.C. landmarks can be seen from its’ steps. You are able to see views of the Reflecting Pool, Capitol Building, and the Washington Monument. On this day, the Reflecting Pool’s water was frozen over, giving it the prettiest glossy finish. The white marble of the memorial makes the prettiest backdrop for elegant engagement photos. 

Why Sunrise?

The Best Time for a Washington D.C. engagement session is at sunrise, even in the cold winter months! This assures there are not a lot of people in the background of your photos and creates a more intimate feel. When you have your photos taken in the morning, it is also easier to find parking. Once you are finished with your engagement session, you have the rest of the day to explore and relax. If you are wanting to have your hair and makeup done before photos, don’t worry! Many makeup artists will gladly accommodate an early morning appointment.

What To Wear for a D.C. Engagement Session 

In the winter, make sure to dress warm! Bring pocket handwarmers, hats, scarves, and coats. You can always take your coat off if you want a few photos without it on.
