2062 Germanna Highway (Route 3)
Locust Grove, VA 22508
Salubria is a historic, eighteenth-century Georgian-style manor house constructed by Reverend John Thompson, rector of the Little Fork Church, in the 1700s. “Salubria” means “healthful” in Latin, and this beautiful house has become a popular destination for visitors from all over.
The venue features tall, corbel-capped chimneys enclosed at each end of a hip roof. The house’s front and rear facades are identical, made of Flemish bond bricks. Three sides of the manor are stuccoed to look like cut stone, which was popular in the Greek-revival period of the 1850s. Salubria’s interior feels like being transported to another time. This manor house became a Virginia Historic Landmark in 1969 and part of the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
Salubria and its grounds are a beautiful location for a maternity photo shoot in Virginia. The house’s exterior is grand, and this multi-level building makes an excellent backdrop for photography. Exposed brick, crisp white windows, and outdoor stairways make great backdrops for maternity photos.
Outside the manor house, large landscaped lawns and towering trees add a touch of lush greenery to this historic site. Trees provide plenty of shade from direct sunlight. Still, the grounds are expansive enough to allow lots of natural light to pour into the space.
Inside Salubria, the ambiance is reminiscent of the historical past. From large fireplaces to hardwood floors, wood walls, large windows, and grand views of the outside of the property, Salubria’s interior spaces are also a lovely backdrop for maternity photos. Natural light streams through the many windows, and the rooms are open with lots of space to try different poses or play with natural light.
